The Küstenpinkies are a dragon boat team from Wilhelmshaven, Friesland, made up of 23 women, each of whom has experienced or is currently battling breast cancer. They are part of the global Pink Paddling movement, a sport shown to aid in both the physical and mental recovery from the disease. For the Küstenpinkies, however, dragon boat paddling has evolved into something far greater than therapy—it has become a passion. With a clear goal in sight, they are driven to compete in the European Dragon Boat Championships in Italy. A victory there would not only mark a significant sporting achievement but also serve as a personal victory over their illness.
Two of the paddlers, Konni (70) and Jasmin (43), received their breast cancer diagnoses at vastly different stages in their lives. Jasmin was a young mother and a self-employed architect, while Konni, a nurse, was preparing for retirement. Both diagnoses disrupted their previous lives, leading them to the Küstenpinkies, where they found a strong sense of support.
This documentary follows the women from the North Sea coast of Germany to the Adriatic, where they compete for the gold medal in Ravenna. PINK POWER is a story of healing, solidarity among women, and athletic triumph.
